Ebook Organizer Beta 1.01

When I was a produced a documentary film in 1996, video was still shot on tape. A newer, smaller tape format had just come out. I think it was called ‘Hi–8’. When working with this new format, a veteran video editor told me that he did not like the new format. “What’s not to like?” I asked him. The tapes were smaller, and less expensive than the old format. “These tapes are so small, I misplace them all the time!” And so, I realized that we often rely on the physical space that an object occupies in order to keep track of it.

For books, we have developed the very simple organizational system known as a bookshelf. But what happens, when you take a book and convert it to electronic form? The book no longer takes up any physical space. What a great thing this is! Each of us now can have huge private libraries of eBooks. They take up no space in our homes, and they require no paper from trees. We have a problem though. We can’t use a bookshelf anymore. We must develop a new system with which to organize our books. That is the purpose of this software.

My goal is for this software to be as simple and easy to use as a bookshelf. I have to be honest with you and tell you that it is not there yet. To reach my goal, I need your help. I need you to try out the software and tell me about your experiences using it. Do you get any error messages? What limitations are most annoying? How can it be improved?

You can download the software below. Please send your feedback to ebooks@pacificcoastdigital.com. Thank you.

As of October 1 2005, I have realeased a new version that fixes a problem with error messages begin generated when you try to import ebooks.
